The Idioms In Rumelılı Zaıfı’s Dıvan
There are various value judgments that shape society culture. These judgments are the mirrors of the material and spiritual lives of societies. Proverbs and idioms are also more metaphorical lexical unions that are passed down from generation to generation, reflecting social life, worldview, traditions and customs, imagination and mirroring cultural values. Idioms consist of at least two words and express new meanings by being stereotyped. Idioms have been used in every era and have a special importance in our culture. Classical Turkish Literature texts where skillful words are popular are also texts where idioms are used a lot. Rûmelili Za‘îfî, a classical Turkish poet and one of the representatives of the movement of localization, gave a great place to idioms in his Dîvân. The idiom is used in approximately 600 couplets of Dîvân, which consists of 3,324 couplets. This number is more than the idioms found in the divans of contemporary poets such as Emrî, Bâkî, and Necâtî. In the study, Dîvân was scanned in order to show the idioms we come across with various uses in the Divine of Rumi Za‘îfî. The detected 603 idioms are classified in terms of structure and meaning.
