A Sorrow And Joy Poet: Nef’î
In classical Turkish Literature, both sorrow and joy concepts were used by almost many poets in their masterpieces. Especialy there two apposite concepts were used as conducive for poets who wanted to tell their love to the beloved.Sorrow replaced suffering while telling the love to the beloved; joy meant to tell the happines of retrieving the beloved. Sorrow was used in different ways in classical Ottoman poems. It sometimes meant the obstacles to reach the bloved and also it sometimes meant different objects.It indicated an enemy, a creditor, a soldier who looted the country of love, storm and wind. However, joy indicated as a state caused by living the spiritual and moral pleasures. Nef’i who lived in the first half of XVII. Century and was a famous ode poet used these two concepts mostly in his classical Ottoman poem. In our study, contexts and meanings that were used these concepts in Nef’i’s classical Ottoman poems were determined and inspected.
