Eşek Lexeme In Terms Of Onomatology
While naming new objects in nature, one can set out from a previously known concept. New naming can be made by making various associations from the allosemes of the known concept. The word eşek has been found to have such a mission in the formation of the names of many plants and animals. The word eşek donkey can be seen in written texts since the period of UyghurTurkish. The primary definition of donkey in dictionaries is based on the description of a draught animal with four leg sand long ears. Apart from this, the four strand table mostly made of wood which is used for different purposes such as formortar in construction sorcutting wood in villages must have take nits name due to its similarity to this living being.
The Word "eşek" in Turkish has also been used in naming some animal sand plants. Compound names such as eşek arısı, eşek tırnağı, eşek helvası, eşek hıyarı, eşek alması, eşek baklası, eşek çıtlığı, eşek eriği, eşek inciri, eşek kalkanı, eşek kangalı, eşek kengeri, eşek papatyası, eşek turpu, eşek otu, eşek marulu, eşek niviği, eşek madımağı, eşekkulağı have become the base of naming with its different meanings. When the historical periods of Turkish language have been analyzed, it can be seen that the word eşek began to be used in making nouns in written texts with Chagatay Turkish. Today, there are similar names in compound word structure which have been formed with the word eşek in many contemporary Turkish dialects.
This study makes a comprehensive review on the word eşek. In compound words reviewed, it can be seen that the word eşek has generally been named by taking the characteristics of similarity, size, uselessness and wildness as the base. The results of this study can show which characteristics of donkey are determinant in naming the objects, entities and concepts created with the word eşek. When a study on roots is made based on the ways of naming the word eşek, inferences can be made about the roots of the word as well.
