Nahid Sırrı Örik's novel titled When Sultan Hamid Was Falling, published in 1957, on the one hand mirrors the last period of the Ottoman period full of political turmoil, on the other hand, reflects the change of the individual as a result of political transformations. The events surrounding Mehmet Şahabettin Pasha and his daughter Nimet, one of the important names of the Abdülhamit Period, show the collapse of the state and moral structure in a wide framework. Accordingly, both Mehmet Şahabettin Pasha and Nimet stand out as novel characters who changed sides for their interests. This situation has been experienced for a long time as a result of Nimet's directing his father. Nimet, who approached the Unionists in response to Sultan Hamid's shaken authority, married Şefik on the condition that his father be a deputy in the parliament. As a result of this marriage, she comes to the fore as a woman who constantly influences Şefik in political life. Although Nimet is a character who seems to stay behind in the field of politics, she is in politics in terms of directing the men around her. Even though she may seem a negative figure because of the steps she takes due to her interests, Nimet also shows the characteristics of an educated, strong woman who can generate ideas and influence her surroundings with these ideas. Of course, the situation that allows all this is the father-daughter relationship between Nimet and her father. Because Nimet, who was raised in a modern way, is appreciated by her father and turns into a mentor as a result of the events that make the text interesting. For this reason, in our study, in the face of an aged, disgraced, and ineffective father; The situation of Nimet, who stands as a young, dynamic, intelligent and strong woman, and in this context, the father-daughter relationship will be examined.

Nahid Sırrı Örik’in 1957 yılında yayımlanan Sultan Hamid Düşerken başlıklı romanı, bir yandan Osmanlı döneminin siyasi çalkantılarla dolu son dönemine ayna tutarken bir yandan da siyasi dönüşümler neticesinde bireyin değişimini yansıtmaktadır. Abdülhamit Dönemi’nin önemli isimlerinden olan Mehmet Şahabettin Paşa ve kızı Nimet’in çevresinde gelişen olaylar, devletin ve ahlaki yapının çöküşünü geniş bir çerçevede gösterir. Buna göre hem Mehmet Şahabettin Paşa hem de Nimet çıkarları için saf değiştiren roman kişileri olarak göze çarpar. Bu durum çok zaman Nimet’in babasını yönlendirmesi sonucu yaşanmıştır. Sultan Hamid’in sarsılan otoritesine karşılık İttihatçılara yaklaşan Nimet, babasının mecliste vekil olması şartıyla Şefik’le evlenmiştir. Bu evliliğin neticesinde, Şefik’i de siyasî hayatta sürekli etkileyen bir kadın olarak öne çıkar. Nimet siyaset alanında görünürde geride duran bir karakter olsa da çevresindeki erkekleri yönlendirmesi bakımından siyasetin içindedir. Çıkarları sebebiyle gerçekleştirdiği adımlar yüzünden her ne kadar olumsuz bir figür gibi görünüyor olsa da aslında Nimet eğitimli, fikir üretebilen ve bu fikirleriyle çevresini etkileyen güçlü bir kadın özelliği de gösterir. Elbette tüm bunlara olanak sağlayan durum Nimet ve babası arasındaki baba-kız ilişkileridir. Zira modern bir şekilde yetiştirilmiş olan Nimet’in babası tarafından takdir görüyor olması ve gelişen olayların neticesinde bir akıl hocasına dönüşmesi metni ilgi çekici kılar. Bu sebeple çalışmamızda artık yaşlanmış, gözden düşmüş, etkinliğini kaybetmiş babanın karşısında; genç, dinamik, zeki ve güçlü bir kadın olarak duran Nimet’in durumu ve bu bağlamda baba-kız ilişkisi irdelenecektir.
