THE STRUCTURE OF TURKISH DICTIONARIES IN MAMLUK PERIOD
Mamluk State was founded by slaves mainly composed of Turks in 1250 in Egypt and around. It reigned over until Yavuz Sultan Selim’s Ridaniya Expedition (1517). In this state most of which consists Arabs ,executives were Turks. House Language was Turkish. Therefore, during Mamluk period people showed a considerable tendency to learn Turkish. With the aim of explaining this tendency, in accordance with the education conception of that period, works which may be named as the bilingual grammar-dictionary were prepared. Books like Kitâbu’l-İdrak Li-Lisani’l-Etrâk, Ed-Dürretü?l-Mu?iyyeti fi?lLugati?t-Türkiyyeti, Et-Tu?fetu’?-Zekiyye fi’l-Lugati’t-Türkiyye, Kitab-ı Mecmu?ı Tercüman-ı Türki ve ?Acemi ve Mugali, El-Kavaninü’l-Külliyye Li-Zabti’l-Lugatı’tTürkiyye are of this type. In the study, works mainly used with the purpose of teaching Arabs Turkish Language in Mamluk period (13-15. century) were analysed comparatively in terms of preparation formats and methods. Thus, structural differences and similarities among works of Mamluk period have been uncovered.
