Metaphors As A Transfer Element From Buddhist Turkish Poetry To Islamic Period Turkish Poetry
There are many metaphors that we use unknowingly in daily life . These metaphors are often subliminal and unconscious thoughts reflected in words. The verse texts, which are the works where metaphors are typically used, are woven with metaphors, so to speak. These metaphors, which poets use with or without awareness, are among the primary factors that make narration effective and fluent. Even though Kutadgu Bilig, the first Islamic period work, is a text written within the frame of Islamic perspective, it is also an oeuvre containing traces of the Buddhist tradition. With regards to the metaphors, it has been seen that Yusuf Has Hacip used many metaphors developed in line with the Buddhist perspective in his work. The metaphors that are not in line with the Islamic perspective or developed fully around the Buddhist perspective, can be attributed to the multiple religious belonging, which Yusuf Has Hacip was nourished by. This study evaluates many issues in Kutadgu Bilig, such as negative stance towards women, view of children, perception of the world and ambitions in this manner. Since metaphors are formed based on the common memory of a nation, it is impossible to think that a new work is free from old relations, culture, and religion. Looking into a text with the intertextuality method, it will not be surprising at all to find the traces of the old tradition.
