Puslu Kıtalar Atlası In The Context Of Archetypal Criticism
The life of the World is a lifelong self-knowledge process for human beings. This process has been associated with the journey metaphor throughout history. This action, which takes place in two ways namely physical and spiritual journey, is actually a human’s adventure of growth, development and naturation. Archetypes have an important place in this adventure that enables people to complete their deficiencies, resolve their conflicts and recognize themselves. The archetypes, which mean “the main example, the first model”, are symbols that always occupya a place in the mind of the individual, even though they are often unaware, end are a part of the common unconscious. Archetypes, first used as a term by C.G.Jung date back to antiquity, to Plato’s “ideas”. Archetypes, that emerge in dreams, religious ceramonies and works of art are inherited images that realize the individual’s relationship with the common unconscious. Thanks to these images encountered in the journey of life, the human being attains inner peace and matures, reaches the ultimate goal of wholeness/self. The first images that enable people to connect with the roots of the culture in which they were born are transferred from generation to generation by reflecting them on myths, legends, fairy tales, epics and folk tales in the past, and today manifest in the genre of novels. İhsan Oktay Anar is one of the authors who reflect the hereditary symbols of the common unconscious in his works. In the novel named Puslu Kıtalar Atlası, the hero’s inner journey which is also known as the stage archetype, and the search for self are told. The first signs of this journey, which has been experienced by almost every human being since the first period of human history are seen in puberty or adulthood ceremonies. The journey usually appears in the form of the myth of the hero, formulated as “departure-adult-return”. In this paper, the origin of the stage archetype, the stages of the journey and the transformation that the protagonist goes through at the end will be shown with the method of archetypal criticism. In addition, the importance of novels/literary works will be emphasized in the way people complete themselves or rebuild their personality through archetypes.
