An Unknown Piece Of Şemsettin Sami: “Vicdan”
Apart from the various literary genres such as novels, stories and dramas Şemsettin Sami squeezed into his 54-year short lifetime successful works on Turkish language and grammar. Known as a great scholar, the writer opposed irregularities of the past as well as his own age reflecting this in his numerous pieces. Besa, Sejdi Jahja and Gave are dramas conveying these feelings. “Vicdan” is a drama preserved in Tirana State Archives which illustrates national feelings. Subject of this work was taken from the history of Andalusia. Theme is freedom and patriotism. Plot is shaped around Fatma and Ridvan’s love who are patriots fighting against Spanish occupation. Objective of this work is to present the literary world the drama “Vicdan” that was found by us in Tirana State Archives as a piece written by writer Şemsettin Sami who preserves an important place in Turkish literature.
