Âşık Ömer is one of the 17th century instrumental poets. He grew up in a period when the tradition of minstrel poetry was strong with its own artistic features. However, unlike other minstrels of the period, he produced works in both divan and folk poetry genres. Âşık Ömer, a very productive poet, collected his poems in his work Divan. With the number and quality of the poems he wrote, he has managed to be considered one of the most important representatives of both Divan and Âşık literature poets, and in this respect, he is a rare personality. Poets have an identity as humans in the real world, and an identity they create with words in the fictional world in their minds. In this study, the following question was posed and the answer was sought in the case of Âşık Ömer: "Can the fictional texts created by the poet based on real life contain information about his real identity?" Under normal circumstances, fictionality is at a high level in texts with high artistic concerns. However, folk poetry, which is a traditional literature, prioritizes sociality. For this reason, it has been concluded that the answer to our question is positive in the case of folk poetry. These poems not only reflect the environment in which they are performed, but also the mood, personality traits and way of looking at life of the poet who performs them. In this context, it has been concluded that the findings we made based on the poems of Âşık Ömer, about whose life we have limited information, may be related to his real personality.
